Nursing Home Care

Augsburg offers various levels of care including skilled, intermediate and short term care.  Licensed registered nurses and licensed practical nurses, as well as other nursing personnel, are on duty 24 hours a day to ensure you receive the highest quality care. One hundred twenty-three nursing care beds are located in the West (Health Care) Building. All beds are Medicaid/Medicare certified for skilled care.

Augsburg has a house physician on site multiple days each week and on-call when not in the facility.  Augsburg Lutheran Home of Maryland, Inc. is licensed by the Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and certified to accept Medicare/Medicaid.

All rooms at Augsburg are bright and cheerful. You and your family can bring personal items, particularly pictures, to make you feel more at home.

Intermediate Care is available on either a short- or long-term basis if you require assistance with daily living tasks, such as bathing, dressing, toileting, mobility, and/or feeding. The nursing staff administers all medications and communicates with physicians on your behalf.

Skilled Care
is available on either a short- or long-term basis and includes rehabilitative care (physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy).  Skilled care is often required if you have suffered a stroke, sustained fractures or need strength training following an acute illness. Our staff can provide tube feeding, diabetic care, and various IV treatments.

Short Term Care
When beds are available, Augsburg can offer temporary services that can help you or a loved one adjust to a sudden illness or accident or simply provide care when family members are unable to do so.

If you have experienced a recent hospital stay and you need extended professional care that is not available at home, you may be an excellent candidate for short-term skilled care in the nursing home. Your recovery and return home is accelerated by professional staff available around the clock, including physical, speech, and other rehabilitative therapists.  Short-term skilled care is available for any amount of time although the time frame for this type of care is usually determined by Medicare guidelines.  Depending on your recovery, stays of up to 100 days are not uncommon but they can be of shorter duration depending on the patient’s recovery.
